Harvey reporters cast aside role as observers to help

NEW YORK (AP) -- In the midst of documenting the flooding in Texas, several news reporters have set aside their roles as observers to help people in danger. They've lifted people into boats, connected families through social media, flagged down rescuers and, in one case, coaxed people out of a flooding apartment house while on television. Most news reporters try to stay out of their stories, but say the dire situations they've seen because of Hurricane Harvey and its remnants left Read more [...]

Did ‘Thelma & Louise’ move the needle for female-led films?

NEW YORK (AP) -- When Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon clasped hands, stepped on the gas and flew over the canyon ridge in that memorable ending to "Thelma Louise," many in Hollywood believed they were launching more than that turquoise Thunderbird. It was 1991, and the expectation - or at least the hope - was that they were also launching a new era for women in movies, an era in which it would be easier to get films made with meaty female lead roles, and in which female filmmakers Read more [...]

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kathy Griffin retracted her apology for a gory image of a fake Donald Trump head, saying anger against her was overblown and should be directed at Trump and his administration.
